A Fashionable Portrait

From the 15th Feb – 28th May The National Gallery is showing an exhibition called Face of Fashion.
It shows the work of 5 photographers who have made a large impact on the imagery within the fashion industry.
The photographers are:

Mario Sorrenti
Paolo Roversi
Steven Klein
Corinne Day
Mert Alas and Marcu Piggott

The show portrays the diversity of the fashion imagery that is now available.

You can find the exhibition within the Wolfson Gallery which opens from 10-6 every day.
On thursdays and fridays they have late opening till 9pm.
It costs £8 to get in and £6 if you're a concession.

There are some events in conjunction with the exhibition that sound interesting. My favourite is the two documentaries on the fashion industry on sun 22nd April £15.00.
Film: yves St Laurent and Runway.

Elle Does It Well

Elle Collections is in their second edition and I love it.
It's great for all those fashion students out there who want to buy those catwalk magazines but can't afford it (when they're fifty quid a pop!). For only a fiver you get loads of great pictures and that's what we want.
I love the different ways they divide the images. You get colour ways for the season, a catwalk city catagory and diffrerent looks and styles catagories as well.
Adverts are kept to a minimum which means you can concentrate on the fashion .

Happy flicking.

NEW MAGAZINE OUT SOON

I come back after my little break only to find a new weekly highstreet fashion magazine is coming out, entitled 'LOOK'.
Jam packed with fashion goodness their preview issue was refreshing.
When I look at a fashion mag I want fashion, not adverts dispersed with fashion. Luckily 'LOOK' seems to have hit the nail on the everyday fashion head.
I would appreciate a little less reliance on what the stars are wearing for fashion direction, as there are other places to look e.g. on the high end catwalks. I am a little sick of looking at the celebrities and finding out what they wear at breakfast and where they walk their dog.

I thought that they could have left out the informative and intellectual stories. Not that I'm not interested in the news but I would read a different magazine or paper for that kind of story. What I want from a weekly fashion magazine is pure fashion.

'Looks' feature on skinny and straight leg jeans could have been better. They showed pictures of some nice jeans but they didn't specify if a particular make was better for a certain body shape or if they were stretch. 'How to wear them' should have also included who should wear which designs.

Overall this magazine will be great for keeping your finger on the fast moving highstreet fashion pace. If they continue to pack their magazine each week with just as many high street, trends bargains and new looks, then I'm sure it will be a big hit with anyone with an interest in fashion.

Jenny Packham causes a stir in Bond

Jenny Packham has designed the most wanted dress for the new Bond film, Casino Royale. Worn by the actress Caterina Murino the coral full length cowl neck silk dress has created a huge stir all over the globe. Apparently Jenny’s headquarter phones have been ringing off the hook. I love it, any girls dream stocking filler!

Contact the Packham team for more details, phone numbers can be found on her website

It's all about the LBD

I thought I liked the Givenchy Little Black Dress worn by Breakfast at Tiffany's Star Audrey Hepburn but there is obviously someone out there with a somewhat larger wallet and desire for it than me!
An anonymous telephone bidder has bid and won the dress for £410,000. What an expensive dress!

Fashion Storage: Clear space for more clothes!

I have lots of clothes and my wardrobe is just not big enough. Anyone else with the same problem? Well I discovered today a company in Toronto USA called Store Your Stuff which takes away your clothes and then can return them within tewnty four hours. Perfect to store those party dresses and shoes clogging up your wardrobe space. A bit like big yellow storage but with less effort on the customer's part and they keep your clothes in specially designed clothing stroage areas. I wonder if this will kick off over here, keep your eyes open.
